Fresh attacks by suspected bandits in communities in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State have reportedly displaced residents, with women, children and elderly people among those fleeing their homes.
Conflict reporter Bakatsine disclosed the development in a post on X on Sunday, saying residents of Ungushi had been arriving in Kebbe town since about 8pm on Saturday.
The reporter said many of those displaced spent the night in the rain after fleeing the attacks.
“Local sources say bandits rustled more than 300 cattle and seven camels from Ungushi and Gwandi,” the post stated.
Several men were also reportedly killed, although the exact number of casualties in Ungushi, Maikurfuna and Gwandi remained unclear.
According to Bakatsine, two victims, Usman Umar Margai and Sani Abdullahi Gwandi, are receiving treatment at the General Hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.
“More displaced people are reportedly still arriving in Kebbe this morning,” the conflict reporters said.
The development followed an earlier alert by Bakatsine on Saturday night reporting that suspected bandits were attacking Ungushi and calling for security intervention.
“Bandits are currently in Ungushi community, Kebbe LGA of Sokoto State. Security assistance is needed in the village and surrounding communities,” the reporter had posted.
The latest incident adds to the wave of attacks and displacement reported in parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups have continued to target rural communities, abduct residents and rustle livestock.
