Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorist enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, neutralising several terrorists and recovering weapons and five motorcycles during a clearance operation.
The operation was conducted on Thursday, October 15, as part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist hideouts and deny armed groups safe havens in the North-West region.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, the troops of Sector 2 advanced through identified terrorist enclaves along Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest before making contact with the terrorists.
During the ensuing firefight, the troops reportedly overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
Danja said the soldiers subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them in the process.
Following the engagement, the troops conducted further exploitation of the area, leading to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps and associated life-support structures believed to have sustained their operations.
The military also confirmed the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles during the operation. However, the statement did not specify the types or quantities of weapons recovered, nor did it provide an exact number of terrorists neutralised.
The Theatre Command said troops had maintained a strong operational presence across the general area, sustaining clearance and domination operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and improving security for surrounding communities.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their courage, resilience and sustained operational efforts, urging residents to support the ongoing military campaign by providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
The military said public cooperation remained important to ongoing operations aimed at preventing terrorists from regrouping and threatening communities across the region.
